The Body Remembers: A Lenten Series

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12

This new worship series for Lent, The Body Remembers, will explore the connection between our minds, bodies, and spirits, as well as our connection to one another as the Body of Christ. What do our bodies remember? How does suffering in our bodies carry over to our lives, hearts, and communities? How can we share in healing and joy together?

The series is an opportunity to listen to your congregation about their experiences and to connect with the wider community on issues you care about. Make it your own to highlight your ministries!

This bundle includes:

  • Series Planning Guide, including suggested scriptures, hymns and sermon topics (NOT lectionary based)
  • NINE original liturgies with centering for body and spirit, including Ash Wednesday and Easter Celebration
  • Series branding packet of images and Canva template link
  • Adult Spiritual Formation suggestions
  • FIVE original worship stations that could be used  in worship, in spiritual formation or all together as a special service
  • Written descriptions for each week
  • Additional suggestions including engaging children, books, and quotes

This series features the artwork of  Ukrainian artist Andrew Ostrovsky.

Sample Prayer

God of our lives, we begin a Lenten journey today- a journey of remembering what we already know deep inside. Our bodies remember that we are connected to you. Our bodies remember that we are connected to each other. Help our minds and hearts to join in the remembering. Move us, comfort us, and challenge us again today. Amen.

Sample Benediction

One: May the God who created these beautiful bodies; May the Christ who shared the brokenness of these bodies; and may the Spirit that enlivens these bodies today, go with you. Amen.
